Community Music Works
Fundraising Concert & Reception

Sunday October 27, 2019 - 4:00PM - 6:00PM - The Pavillion at Grace Episcopal Church
(4:00 arrival and mingling, 4:30 concert followed by light refreshments)

Please join us for an afternoon of baroque music performed by the MusicWorks Collective and CMW students. The program offers a glimpse into the world of 17th Century weddings, parties and battles with Bach's "Wedding Cantata" (BWV 202), featuring the brilliant soprano Kristen Watson, the rousing "Battalia" by Heinrich Biber, a harpsichord concerto by Bach contemporary Wilhelmina of Prussia featuring harpsichordist Michael Bahmann, and the ever-popular Brandenburg Concerto no. 3 featuring CMW students and faculty. General Admission tickets are $20. Or please join us in the front rows with your donation of $100 for Patron Seating.

As a special treat, Harvard Ed School alum Chloë Kline, violist and CMW’s Education Director, will both perform and share her thoughts on the importance of arts education. She holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in performance from the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University, where she was a student of Martha Katz. Other influential teachers include Karen Tuttle, Roberto Diaz, and Richard Young. Between 1998 and 2000, Chloë performed across the United States and Europe as a member of the Lipatti String Quartet. In 2006, she performed solo and chamber works across Palestine as part of the Al Khamandjati Festival. Chloë earned her Master’s degree in Arts in Education from Harvard University’s Graduate School of Education in 2005, and joined CMW the following year as a member of the Fellowship Program’s pilot class.

About Community Music Works

Community MusicWorks (CMW) is a music education, performance, and mentoring program that serves Providence, RI, and builds lasting and meaningful relationships between children, families, and professional musicians. Over the past 23 years CMW has grown to engage twelve Resident Musicians in sustained teaching, performing and community-building activities offering free instrument lessons in violin, viola and cello to 150 students from Providence's South Side neighborhoods, and performing as the ensemble MusicWorks Collective in a robust concert series throughout the city. CMW trains a new generation of musicians through a Fellowship Program and the MusicWorks Network, which supports emerging organizations nationwide to practice and implement CMW’s approach.

Founded in 1997 by MacArthur Foundation Fellowship recipient Sebastian Ruth (Brown ’97), CMW’s successful model for engaging classical musicians in urban communities was recognized with a National Arts and Humanities Youth Program Award, two ArtPlace America grants, and strong local and national funding from institutions such as the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation and the National Endowment for the Arts.
