Real Tennis Exhibition & Cocktail Reception to welcome Oxford & Cambridge Tennis Players

Monday 8th August 6-8:30pm

Enjoy a lovely summer’s evening at the Newport Casino / International Tennis Hall of Fame with a Real Tennis exhibition and then cocktails and light hors d'oeuvres on the upper porch overlooking the grass courts which were the site of the first US Tennis Championships in 1881.

Welcome the young men and ladies of Oxford and Cambridge on their bi-annual, trans-Atlantic contest for the Prentice and Seabright Cups and witness an exhibition of Real Tennis by the reigning world champion, Camden Riviere, and World Ranked #10 player Nick Howell of Australia at the historic Newport Casino.

In 1921 a joint team of tennis players from Oxford and Cambridge was invited to the Newport Casino to challenge a combined team from Harvard and Yale and a tradition of collegiate competition, interchange and friendship was born which continues to this day. The Prentice Cup is now played every two years and alternates from England to the United States and in 2016 the matches are to be played on "our side of the pond."  The Prentice Cup was the first international intercollegiate tennis event ever held and stands today as the oldest truly amateur tennis competition played on an international scale.

The famed grass courts of the Newport Casino hosted the first US. National Lawn Tennis Championships in 1881 and continue to host the only professional tennis tournament played on grass in the US every summer.
